Vincent Kazer was born in Baltimore, grew up in Chicago and Atlanta, and studied history at the University of Chicago. He subsequently spent the better part of a decade working and traveling abroad, with teaching stints in Ukraine, Colombia, and northern Iraq. He moved to Los Angeles in August 2015 to pursue his screenwriting MFA degree at UCLA.
